With what appears to be two heads, three legs and four tails, Strange Bird is a balancing act between interlocking pieces. The work reflects Isamu Noguchi's state of mind after he was released from a Japanese American internment camp in the United States during the Second World War. An idealistic Noguchi had volunteered to enter the camp, hoping to improve its conditions through his art. However, his efforts were in vain. This work can be seen as a product of his disillusionment and a reflection on his identity as a Japanese Americam, perhaps a self- portrait. Pleasure of Picasso—Mother and Child; Tanaami Keiichi, 1936-2024, Japan

At first glance, you might think these are paintings by Picasso - this and the following seven frames. However, a closer look shows that they are all reinterpretations of Picasso's works. Japanese artist and designer Tanaami Keiichi began this project during the COVID-19 outbreak, modifying Picasso's compositions and adding new elements, like skulls, bandanas, and Mickey Mouse. Picasso was most prolific in his final years, and Tanaami was inspired by Picasso's defiance of his own mortality. The Picasso project was a way for Tanaami to find hope during those difficult times. Artist Simon Fujiwara invented a cartoon bear, named Who the Bær, who features in many of his recent works. Fujiwara uses the character to reinterpret iconic works from art history. Here, Fujiwara creates his own version of Picasso's Guitar (1912), also made of cardboard and string, adding Who's long, yellow, dribbling tongue. The guitar was one of Picasso's favourite subjects. It has a simple yet elegant shape that some say resembles a woman's body.
